After growing up in the rolling hills of Brown County Indiana, I then spent the past twenty years of my adult life in St. Louis Missouri. In 2023, I made the move down to Tuscaloosa Alabama in order to pursue an MFA in Visual Art while teaching undergraduates in the art department at the University of Alabama. I hold a Bachelors in film production with a minor in screenwriting from Webster University.

A lifelong sufferer of anxiety and depression, my current creative work and research interests focus on the intersection between masculinity, mental health, perception, meaning, and the relationship these things have with visual art.

Outside of academic work, I’ve worked as an airborne sensor operator/photogrammetrist as well as a freelance photographer, videographer, and director for the past ten years. If you want to chat about creative methods, or want to purchase any of my work, feel free to contact me here (upper right hand corner) or link with me on instagram at @jjmillerphoto. If you’d like to hire me for your project or for a photo session, please contact me at mumblesmith media via the link below.

Please take care of yourself and remember that you are not alone.
