eggs
“Eggs” began as the opening scene in a feature length script I wrote about a man unable to commit to his girlfriend while I was in the midst of my own failing relationship. It sat on my shelf in that form for almost ten years. In 2019 I decided to start revisiting old scripts to pull out scenes worth salvaging for a potential directing reel. When I reread this scene, I realized that the protagonist was actually the woman and I suddenly saw it in a new way. Much of my photographic work focuses on the pressures society places on women and their bodies. I felt that this piece was a nice little commentary on the additional pressures placed upon women as they age when it comes to marriage and motherhood.
It is pulled almost almost exactly word for word from the original script and I used it as an opportunity as a director to really work with the actors through the emotional arc and get a really compelling and realistic pace. This cut was completed right at the beginning of the pandemic so, though it screened at the St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase, it did not get much of a festival release.
